Yarn Harvest Yarn Crawl 2012

On September 22, 2012, we were happy to support the Fraser Valley Knitting Guild's Yarn Harvest Yarn Crawl.

Vancouver and Fraser Valley knitters, crocheters, spinners, and fibre-philes were invited to visit as many participating local yarn shops in one day as their feet would allow! The first 200 registered Harvesters who purchased pins also got treated to special swag bags at the locations they visited.

It was a fun event for everyone, and a great excuse for some folks who had not yet visited us in our new location to come and and see our new space!

Berry Beat Festival 2012

On July 7-8, 2012, newly re-opened Birkeland Bros. got to introduce itself to Abbotsford at the 31st annual Abbotsford Berry Beat Festival!

It was a hot weekend, but that didn't keep the throng of people away from the historic downtown area. Our new shop lies right in the middle of the four city blocks closed off for the huge street party, which gave us a steady stream of visitors to introduce to our store, our history, and the recently re-assembled Old Lady herself.

The streets were filled with activities for kids and adults alike to enjoy, but for those who wanted to step out of the heat we had a wet felting table and instruction inside. More information can be found here: Downtown Abbotsford Association Events

Birkeland Bros. Wool Moving to Fraser Valley

April, 2012

We are heading to Abbotsford, BC!

Yes, it's true! We're re-opening. It is going to be a new location with new staff, but the Old Lady will be there along with all the wool goodies you need. If you come around often, you may just see Cara Birkeland stopping in too!

We are doing our best to get organized and to get the online store up and running. If you need something contact us at info@birkelandwool.com or call us at (604) 874-4734.

We look forward to seeing all of you when we re-open!/

Birkeland Bros. Wool Re-opening

March, 2012

A heartfelt thank you to all of our customers and the many people, who have given us such wonderful and touching feedback during these past weeks.

Thank you for dropping by, for caring, for sending cards and emails, for the stories, for the laughter, and the hugs. It is perhaps the most generous reward to hear that we made a difference. Thank you for being part of the woolly business and our family history. You made it possible.

I can also bring the good news, that the Birkeland Carding Machine is finding a new home, and that the services of the shop, with the same line of products, will continue in a new format and from a new location.

Stay tuned for further details. The website and phone number will not change.

Birkeland Bros. Wool Closing

February 2, 2012

To all our Valued Customers,

Birkeland Bros. Wool will be closing as of March 1, 2012.

Birkeland Bros. Wool would like to thank you for your patronage over the last 73 years. We have enjoyed helping, laughing, and sharing your wool dreams. You are not only our customers - many of you have also become our friends.

This decision has not come easily. My grandfather founded the business, and my father took over until his retirement due to illness. About 15 years ago, parallel to a nursing career, I started to expand Birkeland Bros. Wool into its current format of supplying a wide variety of products for crafts and fibre arts.

A wonderful community has formed around our business, and it has been much fun, and you as customers have contributed to 2011 being one of the most successful years in the history of Birkeland Bros. Wool.

Nevertheless, health reasons have forced me to re-assess my options and consider drastic changes. With pride about what my family, our staff, and you as a community have achieved, and with sadness that all good things will have to transform at some point in time, I have decided to close the doors of Birkeland Bros Wool, and focus on new horizons.

Help us to celebrate the wonderful and woolly things shared, of decades past and new decades to come, in this month of February. We will be having several sales events, and it will be a good occasion to re-stock your coffers and drop by and say hello.

We wish you continued happiness in knitting, spinning, weaving, felting and many other wool dreams.

We have loved being part of your life.
