marks the year anniversary of the Abbotsford Spinners and Weavers Guild (formerly the Wheel and Loom Guild). Organized in 1976 the Guild met in different locations until a permanent home was established at the Abbotsford Arts Council's Kariton House. Then, from 2004-2012 meetings were held in members' homes. The Guild is currently meeting at Birkeland Bros. Wool and remains an active member of the Abbotsford Arts Council.
Through the years the Guild has benefited from an active and enthusiastic membership which generously volunteers time to organize and run the Guild's services and activities.
The Guild's goal is to promote the art of spinning, weaving and felt making in the community.
Regular Guild meetings are held the 1st Tuesday morning of each month from September to June. Workshops, demonstrations, or other fibre related discussions follow a brief business meeting. On the 3rd Tuesday of each month an informal "fibre morning" is held where members can exchange ideas and new members can receive feedback and help on spinning, weaving or felting projects.
Membership in the Guild allows access to the Guild's magazine library and use of the Guild's spinning and weaving equipment at a nominal fee. Membership in the Guild allows for interchange of ideas with others interested in spinning, weaving and felt making.
Membership is $30.00 per year.
The Guild owns a selection of equipment for the use by members at a nominal fee. Equipment includes a floor loom, table looms and spinning wheels.
The Guild participates in art and craft demonstrations, sales and exhibitions throughout the year.
Membership's work shown in Guild sponsored exhibitions or sales must be examined by the Guild's Standard Committee to ensure a consistent high quality is maintained.
