Also known as mawata (Japanese, meaning "to spread around"). Made from degummed cocoons that are stretched over a frame, silk hankies were originally used as padding inside winter kimonos. They are most commonly spun into a slightly textured yarn, and are easier to transport and handle than other silk fibres for spinning on the go! Silk hankies can also be dyed and/or carded to blend with other fibres.
